Join fellow book lovers in reading, discussing, and celebrating some of our favorite books! Book topics include nature play and nature-based education, natural history, and children’s books/activity guides. Each month we’ll dive into a featured book, have lively dialogue about it, and meet guest authors and illustrators along the way. We will touch on implications each selection has in nature-based teaching and parenting. Complete book list will be provided upon registration for each seasonal cycle of Nature Book Club. Cozy up with a great book and join us!

HOW WILL THIS WORK?

Each month the Nature Book Club will highlight a different book. You can borrow the book from your local library or purchase it and join us in reading and discussion using our online platform, Thinkific. Our course facilitator will post weekly reflection questions, ideas, or start a mind map to revisit during a live session.  We welcome you to participate as much or as little as you like, but more ideas and voices contributing to the conversation can create wonderful opportunities for learning and connection!

WHAT DOES THE SCHEDULE LOOK LIKE?

Nature Book Club will meet the second Monday of each month from 7-8 pm EST, starting October 10, 2022 and running through September 11, 2023.  The schedule for the monthly live sessions will rotate as follows:

Featured Book session: discuss a selected book and share ideas, reflections, and questions

Author Meet & Greet session: brief Q&A with an author

Nature Book Share session: bring your favorite children's and adult titles to share!

After each session we will share the next month's book and in between each session we will continue the conversation virtually on Thinkific. To kick off our series, we will begin reading Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer for our Featured Book, then we'll meet Teaching Off Trail author Peter Dargatz, and wrap up 2022 with a Nature Book Share.

WHO SHOULD JOIN THIS SERIES?

This series is ideal for book lovers, nature-based educators, early childhood educators, administrators, public school teachers, informal educators, and anyone interested in building community through reading!

HOW DO I JOIN?

The Nature Book Club is offered at a sliding scale rate to ensure accessibility to all. The actual cost to run the series is $150 per person for the year, but we invite you to pay whatever you are able. The funds generated through this program go directly to support ERAFANS in continuing to offer scholarship aid and free professional development opportunities.
